Dr. Cornel West, American philosopher, author, critic, actor, and civil rights activist, spoke at the opening session of the American Public Health Association’s 138th Annual Meeting in Denver.

West is a powerful rhetorician. In a speech bordering on poetry, and full of musical references to blues, funk and jazz, West exhorted his audience to recognize the humanity of all humans, seek social justice motivated by compassion, and be ambassadors for hope.  The entire speech is in three parts.  Part one is below, you can watch the rest here.

If you were there for the speech, please weigh in and tell us about your experience.  To read about UNC’s global health presentations in Denver, click here.
